Agnes' Portuguese Bake Shop

Agnes' Portuguese Bake Shop makes hot and fresh crispy malasadas. They operate out of a food truck in Kailua next to Manuheali'i (clothing store). Agnes' malasadas are ring shaped and fried to golden brown with a generous amount of sugar all over it. The malasadas take 15 minutes to cook so pre-ordering by phone will reduce the wait time. I recommend ordering at least 1/2 dozen because you'll eat a few in the parking lot before you drive off to your next location.

I always go before 9AM on a Saturday and I've never had any issues with parking. There are some tables and chairs with umbrellas so you can eat there if you like. It does get hot because of the morning sun. They accept cash and credit card for payment.

Island Glazed

Island Glazed is a donut shop in the Aiea area that makes fluffy donuts with local flavors like guava, lilikoi, lychee, ube and more. My favorite is their OG (original glazed) donut which is similar to Krispy Kreme but without the greasy taste. I thought the flavored ones were too sweet but the lychee had better flavor compared to the guava. Their donuts cost about $2.50 each which is pricey but if you buy them by the dozen or half dozen, it's cheaper. I recommend going before 10AM for the best selection of flavors. If the trays inside the display case are empty, ask the staff and they'll let you know if there's more of that flavor in the back. Besides the yeast donuts, they also have cinnamon rolls, filled donuts, donut holes, drip coffee and a few espresso drinks.

They are located inside the Pearl Kai Shopping Center next to Ricado's Italian Restaurant. They have a leather couch with a coffee table inside and a few chairs with counter seating against the wall. There is parking in front of the shop making it easy to grab and go breakfast in the mornings.

Niu Soft Serve

Niu Soft Serve is a dairy-free ice cream shop located in Mo'ili'ili across from Old Stadium Park. They offer 4 different flavors of soft serve and 2 of the flavors change weekly. The coconut and ube are always available. Some of their weekly flavors consisted of pineapple, orange, strawberry, and chocolate malt. My favorite flavor so far has been the pineapple because it tastes like Dole Whip. Yes, there is a bit of a coconut after taste to all their flavors but it still really good. The soft serve is priced between $6.50 - $7.50 and topping are extra charge. If you're visiting for the first time, I recommend the hot kulolo sundae. If soft serve is not your thing, they also sell shakes, cookies, and pie slices.

They have tables and chairs inside so you can stay there to enjoy your soft serve. For parking, you can park in front of the store. The parking lot is shared with all the businesses inside Old Stadium Square.

Ono Giant Shrimp Chips

Ono Giant Shrimp Chips are known for their large sized light and airy shrimp chips sold in the original or furikake flavor. Beside the original and furikake, they have other flavors like barbecue, spicy barbecue, honey garlic, Maui onion, and spicy furikake. Each chip is large and sturdy so you can use it to scoop up poke or your favorite dip. My favorite is the original flavor, but the barbecue is pretty good.

The best way to get their shrimp chips is to buy it from the factory in Aiea since all the flavors are available there. It comes in 2 sizes, small and large. The small bags are $6 each and the large bags are $11. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 8AM - 5PM. They accept cash or card for payment. The shrimp chips are also sold at Costco locations in Hawaii and Longs Drugs. If you're not on Oahu, you can buy their shrimp chips online and they'll ship it to you.

Kyra The Baker

Kyra The Baker has a pop-up cookie shop at the International Marketplace in Waikiki. She is a teenager and she bakes a few hundred cookies each day to sell. My favorite cookies are the passion fruit (lilikoi) buttercream and the biscoff because those flavors are unique and no one else on Oahu makes them. The lilikoi buttercream was a special that I've only seen twice since she started the pop up in June 2022. That cookie has a layer of lilikoi sauce and is topped lilikoi buttercream. The biscoff one has a small amount of cookie butter in the center and is topped with a lotus biscoff cookie. All the cookies are chewy and the sweetness level is just right. The cookies are thick so you can hold it up for photos and they won't crumble.

The pop up will be at International Marketplace till August 2022. You can follow Kyra on Instagram, @kyrathebaker, to see what flavors are available and other places she will pop up at. Her cookies do sell out so I recommend going early if you have specific flavors you want. You can also text your order and pick up later.

Izu's Mochi

You can find Izu's Mochi at the Kakaako Farmers Market by the JABSOM side every Saturday. They have 9 regular flavors for the mochi but will also have some special flavors along with mini boxes of chi chi dango. Their mochi is best eaten fresh on the day you buy it. Some of their fillings are chunky, like the peanut butter chocolate and the cookie butter. The ones with smooth fillings are the azuki and the kinako.

If you love mochi, I recommend picking up a few to try. The mochi is priced at $2 per piece. The chi chi dango mini boxes are $3 each. If you go to the farmers market at 8:00AM when it first opens, the line for mochi will be shorter. If you follow them on Instagram, @izusmochi, you can pre-order a few days in advance and go straight to the pick-up side and skip the line. You'll also get a sneak peek of the special flavors. Izu's Mochi accepts card for payment but when going to the farmers market, I always bring some cash in case the other vendors don't accept card or there's issues with the terminal.

For parking, you can find free parking across the street next to the construction area. There are signs that say "farmer market parking."

'ili'ili Cash and Carry

'ili'ili Cash & Carry started out as a place that served pizzas, sandwiches, and salads. In the last year, they've added wines, gourmet foods and snacks imported from Italy so it's now a store. You can buy pizza by the slice or order whole pizzas. My favorites are the garlic balls and the veggie pizza. Their garlic balls are very garlicky, but they don't burn so you can keep eating them. I also get the crispy pepperoni add on which makes it taste better. I personally have not been a fan of veggie pizza until I tried it here. I like it because they don't put bell peppers on top. I prefer the Neapolitan style pizza over the Sicilian style pizza because I like thin crust and the crispy edges. The pizza slices are $4 each and they have 4-6 options to choose from.

They are in Moili'ili next to Mini Garden; they took over the space that used to be Watanabe Bakery. There is ample parking available in the lot after you past the shop. If you are ordering whole pizzas, I recommend doing a phone order or using the Toast app in advance to reduce your wait time in the shop. They do not have any tables or seats; this is a grab and go place.

ELEVEN

ELEVEN is a cocktail bar located inside of Foodland Farms at Ala Moana Center. They offer a large selection of liquor, with some specialty cocktails and a few items on their food menu. I recommend the popcorn with sage and the prosciutto asparagus toast.

The entrance to ELEVEN is towards the back of the store. You will see some wood panel walls and behind that is ELEVEN. The interior space is nice and it feels very comfortable to hang out in. This would be a great place to come with your co-workers or friends after work.

Fujiya Hawaii

Fujiya Hawaii is a confectionery known for their mochi, manju, and senbei. Some of their products are available in the supermarket but I recommend coming here for the best selection. If you're planning to get mochi, it is best to pre-order 2 days in advance on their website. This will guarantee you'll get what you want. You can walk in but some items might be sold out because of its popularity. Today (8/8/2021) is also the inaugural National Mochi Day. If you grew up on the islands, you'll know that mochi platters are at potlucks and holiday lunches/dinners so this is loved by the locals. My favorites are the strawberry mochi and chichi dango. The prices for mochi and snacks start from $4.

They are located in the McCully area. When you see Sanoya Ramen on S. King Street, make a right turn and Fujiya will be in the next parking lot. The parking lot is shared with Minato Japanese Restaurant and a few other businesses. Since we are still in a pandemic, I suggest paying with a card. Their terminal accepts contactless payment.

Island Popper

Island Popper is open and you can pick up some gourmet popcorn to snack on as you continue to work from home. My favorite flavor is the Oahu Mix, it's half butter popcorn and half furikake popcorn. If you've never had their popcorn before, I suggest the 4-cup pack for $10. Once you figure out your favorite flavor, move up to a bigger size. You can also have mochi crunch added to your popcorn for an additional fee.

They are located in Kalihi. If you live on the island, you can purchase online and get curbside pick. They have parking spaces in front of the shop. If you are on the neighbor island or the U.S. mainland, they can ship to you. They have 2 different websites so make sure you are using the correct one before placing your order. You can follow them on instagram, @islandpopper for special flavors and special pricing.

Holey Grail Donuts

The Holey Grail Donuts are on Oahu. Their taro donuts are made with locally sourced ingredients and fried in coconut oil. The donuts are made to order so they are always hot and fresh. The tasting box is $15 and contains 4 donuts. The flavors change weekly. You can also get the "hot single" donut which is topped with honey and sea salt. You can buy donuts individually at $4 each. Some of my favorite flavors are the dragon slayer, strawberry fields, and hot single.

The bright yellow truck is parked at Ward Village near the former location of Bed Bath & Beyond. The best time to go is mid-morning or after lunch to avoid the crowds. They open daily from 8am - 2pm. They accept cash, credit cards and have contactless payments. You can follow them on instagram for updates, @holeygraildonuts.

Scoop Scoops Hi - CLOSED

Scoop Scoops Hi has sherbet to cool you off during the warm weather. Their sherbets are fruit flavored but they have a couple that are non fruit. They also have a special flavor each week that is announced on their instagram, @scoopscoopshi. The sherbet prices range from $5 to $9. I enjoyed the mayjah mango with moo juice. Moo juice is like condensed milk but less sweet. It makes the sherbet creamier and you can pick up a bottle for $2.

The shop is located between Pumehana Street and McCully Street. There are metered parking space in front of the shop. I went on a weekday before the lunch hour and there was no line and all flavors were available. I recommend going in the morning when they first open for the best selection.

808 Corn Stars

808 Corn Stars offers locally grown BBQ corn on the North Shore. They have 2 flavors, southwest style and Kahuku style. The corn is priced at $5 each. The southwest is very flavorful from all the seasonings. The Kahuku style has a lighter flavor and you can taste more of the sweetness from the corn.

They have a small stand at Kahuku Land Farm and are open on Saturdays and Sundays. I highly recommend pulling over to pick up some corn to eat in your car or for later. I believe all the vendors in this area are cash only.

Their colorful truck is parked near Mother Waldron Playground in Kakaako from Monday to Saturday 10:30am - 5:30pm. The drink prices range from $4.50 - $7.
