Juicy Brew

Juicy Brew is a plant-based restaurant that offers dine in as well as grab and go options. They are open for lunch and dinner at the Kaimuki location. The chefs are creative with the food menu and the presentation for each dish is colorful and pretty. Their flavors are on the lighter side for me since I like a lot of sauce and seasonings in my food but this was an option for eating healthy. I enjoyed the soba salad with tofu poke and the banh mi style tofu burger. Their prices range from $12 - $18 and the portions are reasonable. Since its plant based, I noticed the buns, noodles, and the desserts are more wet/sticky. Overall, the food is not bad. If you're doing a no meat diet or prefer some healthier alternatives, give this restaurant a try. 

They are located on Waialae Ave between 7th and 8th Ave block across from Finance Factors. The inside is small but they have a few tables and counter seating against the window. The staff are friendly and they gave us some good recommendations on the food and desserts. The desserts are in the fridge so save room to try the tres leches cake with blueberry compote. For parking, there is metered street parking in front of the restaurant or you can find free street parking in the residential areas of Palolo or Kaimuki.

The Cutlery

The Cutlery is a Steakhouse and Barbershop located in Kaimuki. They are split in half but share an entrance. The restaurant/Steakhouse is on the left side and the barbershop has another sliding door on the right side so the 2 areas are separate. The Steakhouse is known for their ribeye and prime rib. I enjoyed all the items ordered and did family style dining. The duck fat fries were the best item of the night because those fries were salty and crispy. The kitchen does take a while so order some appetizers to snack on while you wait. The food prices are reasonable and they give big portions. As the restaurant got busier into the night, it was a bit challenging to get the staff's attention but when we finished our food, they stopped by to clear the plates.

The inside has a bar and a couple of high tops. The rest of the seating is outdoors on the patio. There is a 2-hour time limit for dining in so make sure everyone arrives on time and peek at the menu on OpenTable or Yelp. I recommend making a reservation one week in advance. If you walk in with 1 or 2 people, they might be able to seat you at the bar but if you want a table, you need to reserve it. The atmosphere is casual and they played 80s music all night. For parking, it's street parking only on Waialae Ave or in the residential areas of Palolo. If you're okay with walking a couple of blocks, you can park in the paid parking lot where Happy Days and Big City Diner is at.

No Name BBQ Sandwich specializes in banh mi. They are open for takeout only, their dine in space is still closed. The sandwiches are priced between $8-$10. My favorite is the roasted beef sandwich. The meat is shredded so every bite has roasted beef. They also put a generous amount of cilantro into every sandwich. The portions are small so you might want to order 2 sandwiches if you're extra hungry.

They are located in Kaimuki. I recommend calling in your sandwich order before going there down. They will make your sandwich after you pay but calling in advance reduces your wait time to about 5 minutes inside the shop. They accept cash and credit card. For parking, they have 3 metered spaces in front on Waialae Ave.

Pipeline Bakeshop & Creamery

Pipeline Bakeshop & Creamery is known for their plump malasadas that do not deflate. The malasadas are made to order so they are always fresh. The shop has other baked goods like cake bombs, cookies, dessert bars, and ice cream. They stayed open during the pandemic for online orders and walk in orders. During Christmas, they make a chocolate peppermint cake bomb. It's priced at $5 but it's the best holiday treat to get you in the mood. Some of my other favorites are the lilikoi cream cheese bar and original malasada. 

The online ordering is still available now but I recommend walking into the shop for pick up in person rather than curbside. There is no street parking available in front of the shop and other vehicles are parked in front picking up food/drinks from other businesses. They do not take phone orders and they do not answer the phone during business hours. It seems like walk in customers get first priority. 

They are in the Kaimuki area and I'm in this area picking up lunch a few times each month. The baked goods and malasadas from Pipeline keep me coming back because it's that good. You can follow them on Instagram, @pipelinebakeshop, for specials.

Breadshop

Breadshop is open with limited hours. If you're craving fresh baked breads or pastries, I recommend placing an order from them. The breads are pricey but they taste good and will last for a few meals. My favorite is the flatbread topped with sea salt. The pastries are sold by the box and you get different flavors in each box.

They are currently open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for pick up. You must order and pay online. They do not accept walk up or phone orders. The pickup is easy because you don't need to leave your car. An automated text message gets sent 15 minutes before your pickup time to remind you about your order. Once to get into the parking lot behind Finance Factors, the Breadshop staff will come to your car and get you your baked good.

Molokai Hot Bread

Molokai Hot Bread is available on Oahu! Their food truck is selling the same bread you'll get a Kanemitsu Bakery on Molokai. They started adding more stops in Honolulu last weekend so I was able to get some. It's a huge round loaf of bread that gets cut in half and you can choose up to 4 fillings; $1 per filling. You can also buy the bread plain for $8. I've always enjoyed the strawberry and cream cheese. If you're feeling adventurous, get "da works" which consists of strawberry, blueberry, cinnamon, butter, and cream cheese.

If you want some hot bread, follow them on instagram or facebook to see where they'll be during the week. Their truck is gray colored and they accept cash and card. Depending on what location you go to, the wait could be long so go right when they open.

The Surfing Pig

The Surfing Pig is located in Kaimuki in the former space of SALT. They only open for dinner but they have a full bar. The porchetta is high recommended; they have an option of ordering this as a side. Their space is small so reservations are recommended. The service is good and their prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. It's best to go with a group for 4 so you can try a little bit of everything on their menu.

The Edge by Tamura's is a restaurant located in Kaimuki. It is owned by the same people who run Tamura's Fine Wine & Liquors. The restaurant has a huge selection of drinks and a bar on the first level. The dining room is upstairs. The menu is a mix of seafood and meat. They have a few varieties of poke but getting the sampler is best. Your waiter will let you know what poke they're offering that day because it changes daily. The entrées are about $15 each and the cocktails are $10. My favorites were the king crab poke and the garlic sweet potato fries.

The interior lighting is dim but it's a great place to come and unwind after work with your friends. I recommend doing family style so you can try more of the food. They are only open for dinner and reservations are recommended if you want to sit upstairs in the dining room. The street parking is free after 6pm or you can park in the paid lot between 11th and 12th Ave.

Avenue's Bar + Eatery is a gastropub located in the Kaimuki area. They are in the former space of SALT and Hale Ohuna. The items on their food menu are heavy but if you like to drink, this place is definitely for you. The have unique cocktails and a big list of beers, wines, and whiskies. For food, my favorites were the antipasto plate (the bread is really good), poutine, jidori buttermilk fried chicken, and open faced smoked ahi melt. Those item are great for sharing. If you want something all to yourself, their burgers are also good. I enjoyed the Ni'ihau lamb burger and the Hawaii Ranchers pastrami sandwich. A lot of the ingredients they use are locally sourced. The prices are high but if you are dining with a group and you can split the cost, it's not bad.

Their interior space is small so I highly recommend making reservations. They are only open for dinner and it's gets busy. For parking, the paid parking lot between 11th and 12th Ave is your best option.
