Fendu Boulangerie

If you're a fan of French pastries, you will like this place. The shop is small but their pastries are packed with a lot of taste. I recommend the lychee streusel danish and the chocolate croissant. They use canned lychee but it's still very good. As for the croissant it's very buttery and flaky. The chocolate was slightly bitter but it didn't bother me.

I tried some of the other desserts but I didn't think it taste as good as the lychee streusel danish and the chocolate croissant.

Shiro's Saimin Haven

If you love saimin, you need to check this place out. They have so many different variations of saimin. If you don't like what's on their menu, you can create your own bowl. The staff are super nice and they give you suggestions on what's good. I highly recommend the mochiko chicken (get a side order).

When you first walk in, the restaurant looks small but there's a lot more seats in the back by the kitchen. It took me awhile to find a parking space because I went on the weekend. Since Waimalu Shopping Center has so many other businesses, you have to be patient with parking. If you don't live near Aiea, you can visit one of the other 2 Shiro locations.

JJ French Pastry - CLOSED

If you're ever craving sweets and you happen to be in Kaimuki, you might want to swing by this place. JJ French Pastry is open for lunch and dinner but they also specialize in sweet pieces of art. They have a showcase filled with sweets and it makes you want to order one of everything. The sweets go for about $5 each. They give you the option to eat there or you can take it to go. Their signature item is the chocolate pyramid.

Mitch's Fish Market & Sushi Bar - take 2

I didn't think they were open for lunch but they are. The menu is the same as what they serve for dinner. They still have the best toro on the island so I highly recommend ordering that (do the sashimi not the sushi).

There are few parking spaces in front of the restaurant but if it's full, there's usually space on the street. I also recommend making a reservation before coming because the restaurant is very small.
